Homeward Trails

Homeward Trails Animal Rescue (HTAR) has saved tens of thousands of animals across the world. This non-profit 501(c)(3) organization provides pet rescue and adoption services in Virginia; Washington, DC; and Maryland. As our Virginia-based animal welfare partner, HTAR relies on the local community's generosity to further its mission, and corporate partnerships like ours are critical to its success.

HTAR also operates animal shelters in West Virginia, North Carolina, and Mississippi, where animals face euthanasia because of limited funds and inadequate space. Internationally, HTAR has rescued dogs from Thailand, China, Korea, Russia, Peru, Greece, and Kuwait, where cats roam the streets and the dog meat trade unleashes horrible abuse on dogs. HTAR also operates a full-time program in Puerto Rico, where the organization has rescued more than 450 dogs and provided trap-neuter-return (TNR) services for more than 500 cats.

“Chris has been a wonderful walker for my dog, Neko. Neko is a lazy beagle who doesn't always feel like going outside, especially in inclement weather, but he is always very patient and gentle with her in coaxing her out. Chris is courteous and prompt. As an added bonus, he also does great work for animal rescues and donates a portion of his business's proceeds to local shelters!”

Humane Rescue Alliance

Our District-based animal rescue partner, the Humane Rescue Alliance (HRA), has protected and cared for the animals of the nation’s capital for 150 years. Its broad range of programs includes direct rescue and care of animals in need, cruelty investigations and local animal control services, robust regional community support programs that help pets stay with their families, and a premier transport program that invests in partner communities to sustainably solve pet overpopulation nationwide.

HRA advocates for and enables the safety and welfare of all animals, bringing people and animals together, and working within communities to support these relationships. HRA is based in Washington, DC, and through a merger with St. Hubert’s Animal Welfare Center in Madison, New Jersey, it created the first regional, community-based, multi-state animal welfare organization in the U.S.

When a Dog Is More Than a Pet

Fido, the classic dog name, is often overused in pet commerce to help distinguish pet-related businesses. To truly understand what Fido means to us, you need to know who he really is—or rather, who he was.
